Anne Hutch’s Visit to Broadway

On Friday, February 1st, representatives from Anne Hutchinson School attended the amazing Broadway show Come From Away and had the honor of presenting January’s Good Deed to the cast after the show! The talented cast invited our students and faculty on stage to present over 100 caring cards written for families who lost loved ones on 9/11 as well as a generous donation to Broadway Cares. Thank you to the Loukoumi Foundation for their partnership in January’s Good Deed of the Month and always!

February’s Good Deed: Honesty

Old Ben Franklin said to you and me, “Honesty is the best policy.” These are the words Anne Hutchinson students are singing each morning as we explore the ethical habit of honesty. Throughout the month of February, our school community is pursuing questions such as: What does honesty mean and why is it important? What are the qualities of an honest person? What are the consequences of dishonesty? At our recent H.E.A.R.T. Assembly, we came to an agreement that being honest means you:

  1. Tell the truth, regardless of the consequence.
  2. Admit when you are wrong.
  3. Do not cheat or steal.
  4. Do not exaggerate to make things seem different than they are.
  5. Keep promises, honor commitments, and encourage others to do the same.

To support this work, students at all grade levels are reading Doreen Rappaport’s Abe’s Honest Words: The Life of Abraham Lincoln and discussing how the President’s honesty (as well as his habits of tolerance, compassion, and perseverance) helped him to earn the trust of so many Americans amid a long and bitter civil war.

Parents deserve to have fun too! On Friday, February 15th, the Eastchester/Tuckahoe Chamber of Commerce is holding its 2nd Annual Parents Night Out, which is also a fundraiser for student scholarships…so you can take your Valentine out on the town and do a good deed! Click here for more information about this fun event!

Recently, our PE teacher, Mr. Fredrick, completed his doctoral work and accepted a position at Queens College. Although our faculty and students will certainly miss him, we are proud of his accomplishments and wish him well on his next adventure. Coach Okie will replace Mr. Fredrick, teaching PE at both Anne Hutchinson and Greenvale, and we look forward to seeing him continue to shine in this role! I am also thrilled to introduce Ms. Kristina Caridi, who will replace Coach Okie as our PE/Wellness Teacher across the elementary schools. Click here to read Ms. Caridi’s introduction letter to families and join me in welcoming her to our amazing school community.

Thank you to our Anne Hutch families for supporting the Eastchester Faculty All-Stars as they took on the Harlem Wizards last Friday night! It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying a great night out in support of the Eastchester School Foundation! Thanks to my talented teammates Shane O’Connor, Deanna Santoro, Coach Okie, Lisa Cilione, Lindsay Farley, and Arlene O’Neill!
