Let Your Child’s Creativity Shine! Crazy Hair Day is Friday, April 12th!

April 8th, 2019

Dear Families,

Kindergarten Spring Concert- THIS WEDNESDAY, April 10th

Our kindergarten students have been practicing tirelessly for their debut concert this Wednesday, April 10th. Your child will share what they have learned about keeping a steady beat, memorizing lyrics, displaying patience and having fun!

Classes will perform at the following times:

9:30 a.m. Dragonetti, Tine, Mastocciolo, Batz, Tortorella, Cavalli (K students)

10:30 a.m. Engborg, Falcone, Torres, Ullrich, Soares, Zanzano and Myers (K students)

Please make note of the following:

  • All parents will enter from the rear parking lot off of Bellew Avenue (near the gym).
  • As always, parking is extremely limited. Please consider walking or carpooling, if possible.
  • If your child is singing during the first session, please be sure to leave promptly to allow someone a parking spot for the second session.
  • This is a regular school day for us!

On the concert day, children can wear festive attire of any color with comfortable, flat shoes (sneakers if they have P.E. that day). Please do not include hats or large hair accessories.

Boosterthon Fun Run is Coming!

Our 3nd Annual Fun Run Boosterthon is coming up on May 15th. We are looking for Waverly families that own businesses to help us raise money for our Fun Run event. A donation of $50 or greater will get your name/logo proudly displayed on the shirts of all children. They will wear the shirt the day of the Fun Run. The deadline to submit your logo and check is April 19th. If interested, please email the PTA at waverlyspirit@gmail.com

Beautification Day is Coming, Saturday, May 4th!

This year’s Beautification Day is a very special one! In addition to planting flowers near the entrances and some fun things in the garden beds for the kids to watch grow, we will be painting the benches and dedicating our new outdoor classroom!

Join us for a half hour, or the whole day. Whatever your schedule allows. We will start with the Outdoor Classroom dedication at 10am, and continue with our planting and set up throughout the day.

We will have some supplies on hand, but if you have your own small shovels, rakes or gloves, please bring them along! Donations are also welcome!

(Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to make a donation of plants, soil, or other supplies).

We will celebrate individuality in our students with our word of the month, UNIQUE!

Please note our exciting activities for this month below:

  • TOMORROW, Tuesday, April 9th, we will light it up BLUE. Please have your child wear blue. SEPTA is collecting a donation of $1 for your child’s participation. (Any donations can be placed in an envelope marked “SEPTA.”)
  • THIS Friday, April 12th is Crazy Hair Day. Get creative and show off a little! We’ll share our craziest hair styles for this ½ day. (Look for photos on my Twitter page- @MariKDoyle.
  • Friday, April 26th will be Good Deed Day. (Don’t forget your child’s Waverly shirt!) This month we will collect can tops to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. (Send in your can tops now through the end of April!)

Eastchester Schools Kindergarten Registration for 2019-2020 School Year

Kindergarten Registration is open for children who turn five years of age on or before December 1, 2019. Tell your neighbors and friends!

Registering now guarantees that families will be able to attend Kindergarten Screening and Orientation. Many of their questions will be answered about life for a kindergarten student at Waverly and children will get a chance to play in our classrooms.

Kindly click on the link below. https://district.eastchesterschools.org/m2/mod/dataform/view.php?d=1&view=1&eids=80&ret=9

Once you have completed the application and all registration requirements, the registrar will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will receive an email to schedule a 10 minute appointment with the Registrar to provide the original version of the supporting documents. Please register today!

Many congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Batz who was nominated and selected to attend T. rex: The Ultimate Predator, an Academy for Teachers master class led by Mark Norell, Macaulay Curator at the American Museum of Natural History.  Acceptance is a distinct, and well-deserved, honor. She got a behind the scenes tour of the upcoming exhibit at the museum. Please join me in congratulating Ms. Batz!

Mark Norell is the Macaulay Curator and chair of the Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. His award-winning books include Unearthing the Dragon, Discovering Dinosaurs, and A Nest of Dinosaurs. Much of his research concerns “feathered” dinosaurs and the origins of birds. Since 1990, he has co-directed thirty research expeditions in the Gobi Desert.

We are so happy to be welcoming spring! As we all know, spring can bring some erratic weather patterns, so please be sure to have your child wear a jacket to school every day. We try to get students outside each day to play!
