Waverly Appreciates Our Teachers!

Check out the Complete List of Websites Compiled by Waverly Staff!

April 22nd, 2019

Dear Families,

We look forward to welcoming our students back to school tomorrow morning!

We will celebrate Teacher Appreciation week this week at Waverly. The PTA has put together a lovely lunch for our faculty and staff later in the week. (Thank you in advance!)  Please join me in celebrating our teachers for all of their hard work and dedication to the children of this community!

For the past several months, we have shared a weekly suggestion of helpful websites for you to access with your child. Our staff compiled the list to explore a variety of curricular areas. You can check out the list it its entirety, under the “Book Corner” section of this newsletter. We have suggestions that are both free and some that require a subscription. We hope you find this list to be useful as you engage in responsible technology use with your budding learner.

On Friday, April 12th, we celebrated our unique nature with a “Crazy Hair Day,” and it was a blast! Our “crazy hair” included all of the colors of the rainbow, braids, mohawks, ribbons, bows, a few “donuts”, and even a cup of hot chocolate! We celebrated by having a “Crazy Hair” parade through the kindergarten hallways. It was a lot of fun! (Below you will find photos from the event.)

Our first graders were also treated to a visit from Anusha, a former student and third grader at Anne Hutchinson School. She shared the work she is doing to save insects. I encourage you to check out her website and social media accounts:

Friday, April 26th will be Good Deed Day. (Don’t forget your child’s Waverly shirt!) We will continue collecting can tops to donate to the Ronald McDonald House through Friday, 4/26. RMH will turn the aluminum caps into cash to support their programs, so get collecting today!  https://rmh-ghv.org/

Beautification Day is Coming, Saturday, May 4th!

This year’s Beautification Day is a very special one! In addition to planting flowers near the entrances and some fun things in the garden beds for the kids to watch grow, we will be painting the benches and dedicating our new outdoor classroom!

Join us for a half hour, or the whole day. Whatever your schedule allows. We will start with the Outdoor Classroom dedication at 10 a.m., and continue with our planting and set up throughout the day.

We will have some supplies on hand, but if you have your own small shovels, rakes or gloves, please bring them along! Donations are also welcome!

(Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to make a donation of plants, soil, or other supplies).

The Kindergarten Spring Concert was a delight!

Many thanks to Mrs. Ness for orchestrating such an amazing concert. The children sounded amazing, and had a great time. We also extend our thanks to the PTA for facilitating the flower donation, and to Nature’s Cradle for the beautiful flowering plants.

Waverly’s Cafeteria got a Facelift!

The Waverly Cafeteria got a facelift over April break! I can’t wait for the children and staff to see the finished product on Tuesday! Please join me in thanking Tony and the Facilities Staff for their hard work. We are lucky to learn in such a beautiful place!

Eastchester Schools Kindergarten Registration for 2019-2020 School Year

Kindergarten Registration is open for children who turn five years of age on or before December 1, 2019. Tell your neighbors and friends!

Registering now guarantees that families will be able to attend Kindergarten Screening and Orientation. Many of their questions will be answered about life for a kindergarten student at Waverly and children will get a chance to play in our classrooms.

Kindly click on the link below. https://district.eastchesterschools.org/m2/mod/dataform/view.php?d=1&view=1&eids=80&ret=9

Once you have completed the application and all registration requirements, the registrar will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will receive an email to schedule a 10 minute appointment with the Registrar to provide the original version of the supporting documents. Be sure to schedule that appointment to complete your child’s registration!

We are so happy to be welcoming spring! As we all know, spring can bring some erratic weather patterns, so please be sure to have your child wear a jacket to school every day. We try to get students outside each day to play!
