Dear Families,

Our Final Workshop of the Year… Keeping your Children Engaged over The Summer

June 13th, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Parents often ask how they can help keep their child from falling victim to the “Summer Slide.” This is when students lose many of the important skills they have been working so diligently to develop throughout the school year. If this is a question for you, we encourage you to join us for our final workshop of the school year. During this important hour, you will hear from our teachers about ways to keep your child motivated and learning throughout the sunny days of summer. (Hint: It’s not only about reading and writing!) You’ll also receive a calendar jam packed with activities. Mark your calendars to attend this workshop! It’s one not to be missed! We will even have a representative from the Eastchester Library on hand to share information about summer programming.  (The workshop is followed by a PTA meeting.)

The Fun Run was a success!

Good Deed Day is THIS WEDNESDAY, May 29th!

Throughout the month of May, we’ve explored how we can be more determined in our everyday lives. Our Good Deed this month was to engage in the Fun Run to support our school! It took a lot of determination to run those 35 laps!

We will celebrate Good Deed Day on Wednesday, May 29th! During this time, we’ll sing a special song with Mrs. Ness about never giving up! (Be sure to have your child wear their red Waverly shirt!)

First Grade Concert-

Thursday, June 20th, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Our first graders are moving on up! Please join us in the Waverly gym for a delightful performance. Children should wear their Waverly t-shirt or another red shirt. Kindly note the times below, and on our website, under “Announcements.” The PTA will host a first grade family picnic that afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m.

10:30am group:

If you will be moving and your child will no longer be attending Eastchester schools, please be sure to write a letter to inform our office as soon a possible. Thanks!

Visiting Waverly’s Playground

We are fortunate to have a great playground on which Waverly students are able to play during recess, as well as some of their physical education classes. With this in mind, please refrain from using the playground during school hours. This is particularly tempting when waiting for dismissal, so we appreciate your cooperation.

Please note that due to the large number of photos we have from the Fun Run (courtesy of Mrs. Maria Davino) a link for pictures will be shared in an upcoming correspondence from the PTA.

I encourage you to follow me on Twitter- @MariKDoyle. I post frequently about life at Waverly.
