Wrap Up With Wellness!

June 1st, 2020

Dear Waverly Families,

As we begin the last month of school, we encourage students  to take a moment to focus on wellness, using mindfulness as a tool to calm their bodies and minds. Please participate in this Elementary Wellness Challenge “Wrap Up with Wellness” for students and families during the month of June.

Click on the calendar below to get started with Shark Fin breathing today!

This month we will focus on being and becoming independent. We will discuss ways in which we have gained independence in our work habits, and application of skills. I encourage you to discuss with your child the ways in which they have grown this year. Which tasks did they used to need assistance with that they can now do all on their own? This is an opportunity to celebrate successes and set goals for the future!

Did you know that we have a few end of year experiences that we are planning for our students? Take a look at what we have planned!

  • Kindergarten Alphabet Parade- Submit by Wednesday, June 17th

(Video will be distributed on Friday, June 19th)

Kindergarten students will be invited to participate in creating a short video of their child displaying a “costume” related to their assigned letter. For example, if your child receives the letter “Rr,” they can dress up as a rabbit, a race car driver or a rainbow! Using items from home is surely best! It can be a wonderful example of recycling, another R word! Be on the lookout for a letter from your child’s kindergarten classroom teacher this week.

  • First Grade Moving Up Concert- Monday, June 22nd, at 10, 10:45 & 11:30 a.m.

Get your red Waverly shirt ready! Another Waverly tradition, this concert marks the culmination of two years of musical experiences. Families are invited to join in and sing songs with their first grader that they have learned with Mrs. Ness. In addition to the special songs we’ll sing, we will also share videos crafted by our teachers especially for our rising second graders. A link for the event will be provided. We have divided the group into three in an attempt to create a more personal experience.

We will sing the following songs, and utilize the schedule below:

  • America The Beautiful
  • I Like Waverly
  • This Land is Your Land
  • Word of the Month Medley
  • S.O.A.R. Song- Moving Up Edition

§  Group 1: 10 a.m.

Borowsky, Chiappelli, Demos, first grade Arita, and Rosenkranz students

§  Group 2: 10:45 a.m.

Schwartz, Vaughan, Zuzolo, first grade Cavalli students

§  Group 3: 11:30 a.m.

Garrett, Saraco, Kelly, and Koller

  • Waverly Wave! -Thursday, June 25th, starting at 9:15 a.m. for First Grade and 10:30 a.m. for Kindergarten

This final sendoff for our students will provide children and staff an opportunity to safely say farewell to one another. Staff will line up and you will be able to drive through the Waverly bus circle and receive cheers from us! Additional details, including a route and schedule will be sent to you this week.

While there will be many staff members in attendance, and all are invited to join in, we ask that you note that not all staff members will be able to attend. Please honor and respect the needs of our staff at this time.

For our first graders, this will be a great time to wear your “Quarantine” t-shirt sponsored by the PTA. For our kindergarten students, we encourage you to wear your Waverly shirt, or another red shirt. We ask that there be one car per family, and that all families arrive by car and remain in their car for the entire route. Additional details will follow regarding the route and schedule.

We look forward to seeing you for the “Waverly Wave!”

If you will be moving and your child will no longer be attending Eastchester schools, please be sure to write an email to inform our office as soon as possible. Thanks!
