Celebrating……

June 8th, 2020

Dear Waverly Families,

We have three exciting end of year activities for your family!

  • Kindergarten Alphabet Parade- Submit by Wednesday, June 17th at 3 p.m.

(Video will be distributed on Friday, June 19th)

Kindergarten students are invited to participate in creating a short video displaying a “costume” related to their assigned letter. For example, if your child received the letter “Rr,” they can dress up as a rabbit, a race car driver or a rainbow! Using items from home is surely best! It can be a wonderful example of recycling, another R word! Be sure to refer to the letter from your child’s classroom teacher for additional information and a link to record the video. My letter is “X.” Can you guess what I will be?

  • First Grade Moving Up Concert- Monday, June 22nd, at 10, 10:45 & 11:30 a.m.

Get your red Waverly shirt ready! Another Waverly tradition, this concert marks the culmination of two years of musical experiences. Families are invited to join in and sing songs with their first grader that they have learned with Mrs. Ness. In addition to the special songs we’ll sing, we will also share videos crafted by our teachers especially for our rising second graders. A link for the event will be provided. We have divided the group into three in an attempt to create a more personal experience.

We will sing the following songs, and utilize the schedule below:

  • America The Beautiful
  • I Like Waverly
  • This Land is Your Land
  • Word of the Month Medley
  • S.O.A.R. Song- Moving Up Edition

§  Group 10 a.m.

Borowsky, Chiappelli, Demos, first grade Arita, and Rosenkranz students

§  Group 2: 10:45 a.m.

Schwartz, Vaughan, Zuzolo, first grade Cavalli students

§  Group 3: 11:30 a.m.

Garrett, Saraco, Kelly, and Koller

  • Waverly Wave! -Thursday, June 25th. Be sure to see the schedule below. Each grade has been divided into two groups.

This final sendoff for our students will provide children and staff an opportunity to safely say farewell to one another. Staff will line up and you will be able to drive through the Waverly bus circle and receive cheers from us!

While there will be many staff members in attendance, and all are invited to join in, we ask that you note that not all staff members will be able to attend. Please honor and respect the needs of our staff at this time.

Important notes:

  • Families will enter the ICS upper parking lot from White Plains Road at the times shared below.
  • EPD will escort us from the upper parking lot to the route along Main Street and into the Waverly bus circle.
  • We ask that there be one car per family, and that all families arrive by car and remain in their car for the entire route.

For our first graders, this will be a great time to wear your “Quarantine” t-shirt sponsored by the PTA. For our kindergarten students, we encourage you to wear your Waverly shirt, or another red shirt.

As noted above, cars will enter the upper ICS parking lot from White Plains Road during the following times:

This month we will focus on being and becoming independent. We encourage you to discuss an area in which your child has gained independence. This may include:

  • Tying shoes
  • Packing and unpacking their backpack
  • Writing … their first AND last name, some high frequency words,  a sentence or multiple sentences on one topic
  • Saying “please” and “thank you” without being asked

You are encouraged to discuss these with your child. What are they looking to accomplish independently?

Did you know that you can order school supplies for your rising second grader?

The PTAs of Anne Hutchinson and Greenvale PTA have once again partnered with AHartz to order school supplies for the 2020-21 school year. This quick, no-hassle process will have your children’s supplies sent directly to the school.  Orders can be placed by clicking the link and selecting either elementary school.

Ordering has already begun. Due to this time of uncertainty, the ordering deadline is extended this year to July 24, 2020.  Once you place your order, you will receive an email confirmation.

This year some household items needed such as tissues and antibacterial wipes will need to be purchased separately and are unable to be included in the packets at this time. This will be explained on the website and from the school for those who choose to buy supplies on their own.

If you will be moving and your child will no longer be attending Eastchester schools, please be sure to write an email to inform our office as soon as possible. Thanks!
