Red shirts for TOMORROW, February 11th. It’s a secret!
February 10th, 2020
Dear Waverly Families,
We will be celebrating our first graders tomorrow, February 11th, with a special top secret event. We would like ALL Waverly students to wear their red Waverly shirt (or another red shirt) for our surprise! (Details will be revealed in June!)
Our word of the month will be courage. We’ve decided to add an element of choice this month, as students will be voting for the Good Deed. The options for students to select from include:
- Collecting can tops for The Ronald McDonald House
- Writing letters to sailors in support of their courageousness
- Engaging in another activity with their Kindness Project buddies (from last month).
Stay tuned for the results in the next Whisper.
Whatever the chosen good deed, we’ll celebrate on Friday, February 28th.
For students buying lunch, as you discuss the menu choices with your child, please be sure to include the fresh fruit and vegetable options, as well as snacks for purchase. Children are allowed to purchase one snack, and we encourage them to eat the snack in the cafeteria. For the safety of all children, no food should be consumed on any buses. (If your child attends an after school program, please send a labeled snack in their backpack, and remind them not to eat it on the bus.)
We’ve been making some changes to the school lunch program. If you are interested in learning more about this, please reach out to Mrs.Deb Ryba, Chair of the PTA Wellness Committee.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Did you know that your PTA membership dollars support the amazing Cultural Arts programming we have at Waverly? This includes the “Around the World” presentation we had recently in kindergarten, and the upcoming Theater Works show.
Did you know that 74% of our families are currently PTA members? In order to support our cultural arts programming, we’ll have a schoolwide pajama day when we reach 80% membership. So, please consider joining today! For more information, or to register, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org

We will also celebrate both Valentine’s Day AND the 100th Day of school this week! Be sure to ask your child about the many festivities going on throughout the week. (I’ll be posting photos on Twitter- @MariKDoyle, as well.)
The Board of Education voted to place a bond referendum on the ballot for this spring. Parents are encouraged to click on the link on the district’s website to provide information. Community informational forums will be held on each campus, all beginning at 7 p.m.:
Feb. 26 at MS/HS Auditorium
March 2 at AH Auditorium
March 10 at GV All Purpose Room
March 19 at Waverly Cafeteria
Any family, staff member, or community member may attend any meeting at any school. Each meeting will have the same content.
As temperatures have dipped, we have noticed an increase in the number of students being driven to school. Please be sure to take a look at the reminders above to ensure the safety of all students.
It’s time to order your Waverly Yearbook!
Please note these very important facts to ensure your child gets a yearbook.
**YEARBOOK ORDER & PARENT AD DEADLINE: APRIL 6, 9:00 PM **
Standard Yearbook price: $25 each

Parent Ads: $30 each (1/4 page only)
Parent Ads can be purchased for any Waverly student and are a lovely way to encourage or congratulate your child on a great year. Multiple ads may be purchased in case siblings or grandparents wish to make an additional dedication. Or, if you are a business owner, please take the opportunity to help promote your business to our Waverly families. Please note that the Parent Ad fee is in addition to yearbook base price and ads must be completed by April 6th.

The ELL T-Ball spring practices/games will be on Saturday mornings, and will run from Saturday, April 25th through Saturday, June 20th. The T-Ball practices/games will be held at one of Eastchester’s four available playing fields (Cooper, Chester, Garth, Leewood). The registration fee for the T-Ball spring season is $100. Here’s the registration link.
Please spread the word about ELL’s T-Ball program if you have friends with young children who may be interested in playing baseball (ELL T-Ball spring season flyers attached). We’re especially interested in increasing registration for our T-Ball girls, and we have a great group of experienced instructors lined up to coach our T-Ball girls and boys teams. Please contact Marty Geagan at email@example.com if you have any questions about the T-Ball spring season. Thanks!
Eastchester Schools Kindergarten Registration for 2020-2021 School Year
Registration is open to all children who reside in Eastchester and will turn five by December 1, 2020. If your child’s 5th birthday is after September 1, 2020 and you have any concerns regarding your child’s readiness for kindergarten, I urge you to contact Ms. Doyle.
You can register your child for kindergarten now. Registration information and forms are available here.
If you have a school age child (or know of a neighbor who does), please encourage them to register now! Registering now guarantees that families will be able to attend Kindergarten Screening and Orientation. Many questions will be answered about life for a kindergarten student at Waverly and children will get a chance to play in our classrooms.
Our Lost and Found is overflowing with hats, jackets, water bottles and more! If you’re missing any items at home, please visit during dismissal and take a look. The Lost and Found bin is near the walker entrance.
Please have your child wear a coat, hat and gloves with grips each day. Our students relish the opportunity to play outdoors, but need to be dressed appropriately to fully enjoy the experience.
